The leading executives within Safecote have been involved in the history and evolution of these products from the very early days of the 1990’s in the US, and as the products became accepted and proven in the severe winters of North America, where about 15 million tonnes of salt are used annually, it was decided to introduce the product concept to the wider European markets.
It was and is recognised that a simple transfer of US technology and operating principles could not be implanted into a unique UK or other European market without going through a process of evaluation and verification under local auspices, to establish a proper basis with independent verification.
Therefore in 1999 Safecote entered a relationship with TRL Ltd, a company with strong credibility within the UK and throughout Europe, for such an assessment to take place. This was a lengthy process, demanding a high level of management and financial resources, but the most effective and professional route to market. This philosophy has been continued and extended with other technical organisations to involve scientific analysis, quality control and product optimisation to give customers the confidence that they are dealing from a credible basis from which to make appropriate and meaningful decisions.
The Safecote product is not meant to replace rock or marine salt application, but to work in conjunction with salt and mitigate against the negative effects of chloride salts in both environmental and asset maintenance terms, using the existing supply infrastructure.
Relationships with salt producers are strong, and joint supply agreements are in place. The supply chain is established and is underpinned by a very strong technical and Quality Control ability and philosophy.
Safecote has established a principle of synergy and cooperation with all aspects of the Winter Service industry, a proper technical foundation, and transparency in all its dealings with professionals at all levels. The philosophy is the cornerstone of our business, and will continue to be so. UK Sales Manager
Sales and Marketing executive
Our small team has over 45 years’ experience in the industry and our aim is to provide bespoke solutions to the significant challenges that our clients and colleagues face through the winter season.
We have four people within our team based at our Cheshire office.
Mark – Managing Director
Mark has 25 years’ experience in winter service. He spent the first 3 years of his working life in ICI’s chemical trading division, where he bought and sold chemicals throughout Europe. He then became ICI Salt’s internal sales contact for all UK rock salt sales. Eighteen months later this business was divested by ICI and was re-named Salt Union.
During his 14 years at Salt Union, Mark became the company’s UK Sales Manager, responsible for the sales of circa. 1,000,000 tonnes of rock salt each year. It was here that Mark began to fully appreciate the demand placed upon UK practitioners during the winter season. Whilst in this role, Mark was a founder member of the National Salt Spreading Research Group (NSSRG), a role he still maintains representing Safecote Ltd, with the group now known as the National Winter Service Research Group, (NWSRG).
In 2002, Mark left Salt Union and took up the position of Director of Sales at Peacock Salt Ltd in Glasgow. It was here that Mark forged strategic relationships with salt suppliers in the UK and Europe, whilst working on the development of other niche businesses.
Mark joined Safecote Ltd in 2004 as Director of Sales. He was responsible for the introduction and growth of the Safecote technology in the UK, where sales rose by over 400% in the first year. In July 2005 Mark was appointed as Managing Director of Safecote Ltd and re-located the company from London to Cheshire. Since that date Mark has continued to develop the technology in the UK, as well as 8 other European countries.
Mark is a regular attendee at winter service conferences around the globe where he often gives papers on industry innovation. It is at these events that Mark continues to source new products that we look to introduce to our clients aiming at continuous improvement in winter service.
Debbie – UK Sales Manager
Debbie joined Safecote Ltd in November 2008 as UK Sales Manager.
Having spent over 13 years working within the security industry, initially, office-based offering customer support and supervision to a sales, installation and service team Debbie developed her career and commitment to customer focus as a National Account Manager, building and maintaining relationships with well-known high street multi-site customers.
This type of customer contact continued by switching to the highways sector primarily dealing with traffic data, signaling and road safety divisions within local authorities. With this in mind, Debbie has an extensive background within technical industries emphasizing a true focus on second to none customer service.
Vicky – Sales and Marketing executive
Vicky joined Safecote in December 2018 as Sales and Marketing executive. Vicky will be the prime internal contact for all customers.
Vicky’s experience mainly focuses on office management, customer service, and account management.
During the past two years, Vicky has been focusing on account management with a major logistics company, managing customers based in the UK, Europe, and North America.
